Fortín de Santa Rosa, a magical environment between Montevideo and Punta del Este.
Fortín de Santa Rosa is located between Montevideo and Punta del Este, in a privileged place in the middle of a dense forest facing the sea, in between two cliffs that protect it, creating a wild and magical natural environment.
This colonial mansion built in 1933 on land that at the time belonged to the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), is a combination of three architectonical styles: Spanish and Mexican an Arab.
It consists on a U form building with an exquisite Central Patio surrounded by galleries. The restaurant is located in one wing and in the other wing we can find 15 rooms divided into two floors.
Santa Rosa Virgin
Located in the grotto of the seaside town, the Virgin has her commemoration day every August 30th, date in which all her devotees and the local people homage her by offering her roses. Currently, the Virgin is protected within the walls of the Fortín and it is possible to visit her by coordinating with the hotel.
At the front of the Fortín there are two cannons that escort a great wooden gate with ironworks and locks from Colonial times. These cannons were extracted from a shipwreck in Montevideo’s bay at the height of the English Temple. Unfortunately, up to this day the origin and the name of the ship are unknown.
In a corner of one of the wings, through an almost hidden door you can enter a cozy viewpoint at the top of a tower, this viewpoint is chosen by the visitors to experience romantic sunsets, the most emblematic visitor of all, the Chilean author Pablo Neruda.
Recently refurbished, Fortín de Santa Rosa opened its doors to the public again in November 2015 with a new proposal;
